Embodied Practice for Leading from Within

Casa Sangha, Summerland, CA

As someone who practices leadership at work, home, and in life, you're carrying the pressure of holding things together for other people, amidst constant change and the quiet expectation that you'll stay steady so others can lean on you.
On top of that we're living through a season of rapid change, chaos, uncertainty, and disruption unlike anything most of us have navigated before. This is what makes caring for ourselves and community more than a nice-to-have right now.
As a result, you've gotten good at moving fast and holding a lot, and it's easy to lose track of your own signal underneath it all. What got you here won't be what carries you forward.
This day-retreat is an invitation to do something different: reconnect with your inner light and build the courage to lead from it.
Being able show up fully in these times is about making space for the kind of joy, contentment and rest that sustains you and your work. You embody your inner light by returning to the body, listening to what's true for you, and letting that shape how you lead — even under pressure. This isn't a solitary practice; we were never meant to tend our light alone. Together we'll practice the relational skills –presence, honesty, attunement, mutuality – that let community spark and nourish our inner lights..
During our time together we will cultivate:
This isn't about getting calm by tuning out.
It's about staying engaged — with the world, with joy, with what matters to you — without losing yourself in the noise.
Throughout the day, we'll build a small set of practices designed to travel with you, things you can actually use in the middle of your regular life, not just at the retreat. That might look like:
A practice for noticing when you've slipped into override, and a way back
A way to check in with your body in under a minute, before a hard conversation
A simple cue for catching the moment you're about to say yes when you mean no
We know, somewhere in our bones, how to meet moments like this… and we know we're not meant to meet it alone.
Your role – as someone who leads, inspires, and connects others – has never mattered more. What's different now is what this moment asks of us: the embodied capacity to stay connected to our inner light, the resilience that only grows in community, and the joy that sustains us through all of it.
Summer is winding down. This retreat is your first step in cultivating your embodied inner light, and carrying it with you into fall.

Somatics is the practice of being in relationship with all of you — not just your head — as a source of information and change. Instead of thinking your way through a problem, somatic practice attune to sensation, images, behaviors, emotions and what's significant to you... bringing nervous-system awareness to help you notice what's actually true for you, and to build new patterns from there. In the context of this retreat, that means learning to lead and live from what you feel in your body, not just what you think — so the shifts you make actually hold, even under pressure.
Somatic work is the perfect next step for people who are accomplished, insightful, and ready to close the gap between their awareness and the skills needed to show up fully.
ElizaBeth brings over 5 years of Somatic-specific trainings with Somatic Experiencing, the Strozzi Institute for Somatics and the Embody Lab in addition to over 20 years of experiencing guiding people into deeper connection with their body through fitness, energy healing and movement practices.
Self-Myofascial release involves using pliable mobility balls to massage the tissues of your body. At this retreat, we will use the balls to support tension release in the neck, back, hands, feet and hips. Participants will be instructed in a progressive way to self-massage so they can experience tension relief without pain. This self-massage will be paired with gentle bodyweight stretches to invite connection and opening in our tissues.
Somatic Yin Yoga is ElizaBeth's signature style of teaching Yin Yoga, and it is a slow, spacious and very supported practice that weaves long-held Yin Yoga postures with gentle somatic practices. This class emphasizes turning inward, inviting participants to rest, release tension and cultivate embodied presence.
Yin yoga is practiced primarily on the floor with a variety of props to provide support during the longer (3-5 minute) holds. It is a “work-in,” not a workout— you will not sweat at all, and many people report experiencing deep relaxation by the end. This beginner-friendly practice is designed to support mobility, nervous system resilience and balance your innate energy flow.
Both of these practices invite participants to build body awareness, release tension in the tissues and support nervous system regulation — creating a soft yet strong foundation for our day together.
There will be no strenuous movement. Aside from standing occasionally, everything we practice will be on the floor and supported by props such as blankets, blocks, sandbags and bolsters.
It is recommended that participants be comfortable with stillness, as Yin yoga includes 3-5 minute holds in supported positions on the floor. Participants will be guided and invited to set up so they experience no pain. This is not a "no pain no gain" kind of class. It's an invitation to connect with your body, and create enough felt-sense of safety that your tissues can soften and release.
We invite you to share any possible limiting factors with ElizaBeth in advance (for example, a knee that can't bend fully... or a shoulder that can't reach fully overhead).
The class is a beginner-friendly class--there are no deep knee bends, no crazy shoulder stretches, or anything upside down. The practices are very slow, and the invitation will be to truly listen to your tissues, so that your set-up in the pose meets your needs for that moment. All of the practices are optional and adaptable for different bodies and comfort levels.
ElizaBeth will be there to guide and offer various options.
We recommend bringing layers, and for the mobility and movement portion of the retreat (in the morning), we highly recommend form-fitting activewear you are comfortable in. The self-myofascial release balls can sometimes "grab" looser clothing. You're welcome to bring a change of clothes if you prefer to be in something else for lunch or the afternoon. Pack a bathing suit if you're interested in taking a dip in the pool after our retreat day is over!
Bring a journal, pen and a refillable water bottle to keep you hydrated. Participants will be asked to bring 2 objects that are meaningful to them for one of our practices--more instructions will be provided to registered attendees as it gets closer.
All the props (including mats) for our movement portion will be provided
There will be opportunities to share in our intimate group of 12, in small groups and partner practices. Silence is always honored, and you are welcome to participate (or not) in ways that work for you.
There will be a brief journaling portion of the day, so please bring a journal and notebook with you. We will practice silence during an extended savasana pose and a brief guided meditation.
Registered attendees will also be invited to lounge at the property, enjoy a light dinner and take a dip in the pool if they'd like after the retreat formally ends.
The nature of connecting more deeply with the body and our inner light is inherently vulnerable and beautiful. This work asks you to be both courageous and heart-centered, while staying connected to your agency and listening for what feels right for you.
Participants will be invited to help cultivate a brave space-- one where confidentiality is honored, honesty is welcome, connection is mutual and people can share in ways that are right-sized for both them and our group. Silence is always welcomed and participants can choose to join in (or not) on any activity.
We have a set plan from 10-5 pm that includes the activities described above. There will be breaks for lunch and hydration throughout our guided experiences. Registered attendees are also invited to stay for a couple hours afterwards, lounge by the pool, enjoy light bites and unstructured time together.
There is parking for every attendee on site. Casa Sangha is mostly flat, with a few small sets of stairs at the property.
During our circle times we will be enjoying different spaces on the property, chairs and/or couches are always available. For participants who enjoy the floor, bolsters and backjacks are available.
If you have further accessibility questions, please contact us -- we would be happy to learn more about what we can do to support you.
