Somatics Isn't About Abandoning Your Brilliant Mind

Your power lives in your wholeness

I want to clear up a misconception I hear all the time about somatic work.

Somatics is not about shutting off your rational, analytical mind. It's not simply about choosing feelings over thinking.

Here's what it actually is: somatics is about integration. It's about bringing your whole self — body, mind, heart, and spirit — into alignment.

Your analytical skills? They're incredible. Your ability to reason, strategize, and problem-solve? Essential. But here's what I've noticed with so many people, myself included: you've been conditioned to live almost exclusively in your head. To override your body's signals. To push through exhaustion. To dismiss gut feelings as "irrational." To question your way of seeing and perceiving.

Somatic work invites you to add another layer of intelligence to your decision-making: the wisdom of the body.

When we tune into body sensations, emotions, nervous system states and energy flow, we're not replacing rational thought. We're enriching it.

We're accessing data that our conscious mind might miss.

Think about it. Have you ever had a gut feeling about a decision that your logical mind couldn't quite explain, but turned out to be right? Have you ever noticed tension in your shoulders signaling stress before your thoughts caught up? That's somatic intelligence.

Both, not either

The most empowered leaders, changemakers and humans I know aren't choosing between head and body. They're listening to both. They use their brilliant analytical minds and they trust the signals their body sends. They think critically and they feel deeply. They plan strategically and they stay present to what's arising in the moment.

That's the integration somatics offers. Not letting go of the head, but inviting fuller, more embodied wisdom in alongside it.

What clients tell me this looks like

You make decisions with more clarity and ease. You communicate with more confidence, and set boundaries that actually stick. You feel empowered to make bold moves, like that career pivot you've been contemplating, or stepping into private practice.

You can step into a new chapter as a beginner, even after building significant success and recognition, and still show up grounded in the wisdom and presence you've cultivated.

You invest your time and energy in what truly matters, without guilt or second-guessing. You feel more alive, able to rise to meet the challenges life sends, and able to anchor more deeply in peace, joy and rest.

If you're curious about what this looks like in practice, I'd love to connect. You're welcome to get in touch, or explore my offerings here.
